Active-duty military members are overwhelmingly in support of the candidate who has military experience, retired Navy Captain John McCain. This poll was done by Military Times, which publishes, independently of the military, a weekly newspaper for each service's members. I read Navy Times, one of these publications, when I was an active-duty Navy officer. It was often highly critical of the Navy, particularly of officers. So it and its sister publications are no shills for McCain or Republicans.
When they separate or retire from the military (i.e., become veterans), they don't seem to be feeling the love for Obama that DK seems to suggest:
